Tinnitus Ways To Lower Your Tinnitus

I have been using a massage therapist who specializes in aroma therapy. He
uses 5 or 6 essential oils mixed. Three times during the massage session
he holds his hands near my face and I am supposed to inhale the scents. He
also spends a lot of time with foot reflexology. I find that during and
after one of these sessions, my Tinnitus is about cut in half. I think it all has to
do with calming my system down.

Masking Sound Are A great Help For Many

MY experience has been that as long as I listen to the masking sounds
just slightly below the level of my T 18mths later there has been no
increase. There may have been *some* improvement.

I also play the White Fountain CD all night long to sleep to...but at
night I actually increase the volume to where the T is masked...so I can
sleep...otherwise I begin focusing on the T. This way I focus on the
White Fountain and can't hear the T. My cats seem to like the sounds as
well:)

I am fortunate in that my T is a constant 3.2Khz and almost the same in
both ears. So the masking is easier than for many others.

WRT hyperacusis...if you go get your hearing tested, and have your
hyperacusis mapped (as in frequencies and decibels), then you may be
able to adjust the equalizer on an mp3 player, to push on your
hyperacusis (this was what I was advised to do by my audiologist).

I believe it has helped quite a bit actually. I have survived a few
episodes (restaurants, dishes being put away) lately which would have
sent me running in the past. In another year I will have another
complete hearing test.

How Does White Or Pink Noise Irritate My Tinnitus

I find the white noise and pink noise tend to irritate my ears and tinnitus a bit. I am so worried about doing more damage at this point and very fearful of any noise damaging my ears more. I do find New Age Music to be the best at soothing me and my ears and sometimes I think that I should just stick with this. I am reading a book right now that says that you don't need to just listen to pink or white noise, but instead you can listen to music that you enjoy on low volume and that this can help just as much. I don't know if this is true and why pink or white noise would be better. I am so confused

Sound Generators May Be A Great Break Threw

The sound generators have a huge opening so can still hear with them in, if that is what you are worried about. They do block a small fraction of the ear canal and so are a nuisance when someone is speaking softly or mumbling. When I explained to some of my closest co-workers what the deal was (I might leave them sitting in the open on my desk), over half of them hadn't noticed them in my ear.
> The idea is to mix in a "blend" of sound so you reduce the amount of tinnitus your brain has to get used to while still allowing you to focus your attention on normal sounds around you. The generators give you the ability to carefully turn up the hiss such that the sound level actually goes up a bit. In a minute or so you ignore it like you would an air conditioner running in the background. If the tinnitus is too loud to ignore, your brain, which would like to ignore it, can't. With the tinnitus reduced, and your attention taken off the tinnitus, your brain has a fighting chance to learn to ignore it. The large opening lets you hear the sound around you, which is key. If all you do is go around with headphones on you'd spend all day focusing your attention on the tinnitus, which would make it get worse and worse.
> Just as important, mixing in the white noise will make the tinnitus less upsetting. There are nerve pathways between the auditory (ear) cortex and the limbic (emotion) system. Any sound that gets you upset will be amplified -- and the part of your brain you think with isn't even consulted! This mechanism is powerful, and I curse the uneducated ENT whose bad advice sent me into a emotional tailspin and added months to my recovery.
> You only need to use the sound generators from 3 - 8 hours a day and you can break it up into 2-3 parts. I was told that over 8 hours a day didn't add extra benefit. A couple hours before work and then for another spell before bed would be fine, in my own small opinion.

Amalgam Replacement Then Tinnitus

My Tinnitus started 5 day after amalgam replacement on one of my upper molar in early March '09. I also have stiff neck, shoulder, skeleton muscles, pain when press on part of my temporalis, SCM, masseter (when grind hard), TMJ related, trapezius, and both sides of my neck muscles. I also work with PC all day.

I had brain MRI done and hearing test which turn out to be normal. I still have problem with my teeth. A root canalled burning tooth pain on another upper molar and the one that had amalgam removed. Some dentists told me that my Tinnitus causes by Trigeminal nerve damage or Brain pathway, But, I think my Tinnitus/ear pain and fullness cause by muscle spasms, Myofascial pain/TMJ related.

Almost 2 months ago, I have been with Physical Threapies and now start doing self massages on those muscles and also wearing a splint at night. My Tinnitus has decreased from cricket, bee, and some ticking sounds with ear pain that was in April '09 to currently low high pitch roaring. My ear pain is less now, and turn to popping/clicking/itchy in the ears mostly on my right side.

I think releasing knots in those problem muscles (TMJ related, skeleton, neck, and back muscles) to decrease spams (Trigger Points) help decease or hopefully eliminate Tinnitus for people that have TMJ or Myofascial problem.

Low Tone And Hearing Loss

I have been dealing with sudden low tone hearing loss in my right ear. It responds to prednisone but then returns when the prednisone stops. No doctors know what is going on but they originally thought it was auto-immune thing. I have an MRI scheduled tomorrow. The tinnitus has been awful caused by the prednisone I think. when the hearing goes out though, a low hum is present which id totally annoying. It's funny because it's not the "not hearing" that is aggravating as much as the noise you do hear when the hearing is out.

This Can Work For Your Tinnitus

Believe it or not MEDITATION. My physical therapist suggested it and it WORKS. The volume has gone at least 50 percent and I've only been doing it for a few days.

Method: I put my noise machine on for background sounds. Sit up right on a pillow. repeat something calming like the word "peaceful" or you can look up Buddhist mantra etcs.

Repeat the word(s) over and over. Your mind will wander but keep coming back to the word(s) you've chosen. Eventually (may take some time or a few sessions) your body and mind will sink into a deep relaxation.

These Are The First Things To Watch: Tinnitus Is Around The coner

Head, neck and back pain, dizziness, impaired hearing, stuffy sensations in the ears,
double and blurred vision, various jaw joint noises, sinus pain
frequent sore throats, migraines, headaches. These are the things that will give you tinnitus.

You should start by consult with a TMJ doctor (some dentists are TMJ doctors, also not all TMJ patients have Tinnitus) and ask about his/her experience in treating TMJ patients with Tinnitus and his/her confident in treating you.

Current, I am with a TMJ doctor. Here is my problem my current TMJ doctor think that my Tinnitus causes by my Brain pathway which is not my believe. I think my Tinnitus is from ears and related muscle spasms as in my earlier post, because after I have been eat only soft food for month and been treated by Physical Therapies/Acupuncturists that do TMJ, my Tinnitus/Ear pain has decreased.

I had MRI done about 2 months ago and an Otolaryngologist and a dentist believed that TMJ problem causes of my Tinnitus. Currently, I am looking for a new TMJ doctor.

This Could Happen To You

Long story short, I had known for a couple of years the jaw was loose on
that side, didn't know the significance of it, until I had
of the mucousy crap that was filling up the area, and then the jaw snapped
back in. It wasn't clear until then that it had been out of its socket.
Since then I've been using the various things for drainage and straightening
the jaw and I have seen gradual further improvement...there's still some play
in the jaw but it isn't popping out anymore.
Trying again to keep it short: everything points to the jaw having been
cockeyed, an abcess developing behind the "open" side, andan infection
getting down in there, causing chronic muscle tension and the body secreting
fluid to ease the area. All this would have chain reaction effects with
swelling, pain, and symptoms that would mimic a sinus infection. The jaw problem
in turn was probably caused by chronic neck issues from anterior head
carriage (X-rays have confirmed neck problems at C1 andC2).
I know this all sounds terribly specific to me, but I have had this problem
for four years and the jaw dislocation only became obvious in the last six
months or so. I've had every symptom associated with tinnitus and then
some...sinus problems, hearing loss, hyeracusis, hearing distortion, neck pain,
acid reflux, stomach problems, chest tension...no doctor ever thought of looking for a simple mechanical problem that might becausing all this stuff,

Do You Work Near Or Around Loud Noise

Tinnitus are people working near and around loud noises on a regular basis. These people refuse to take the proper precautions and therefore end up suffering from tinnitus. If you can think of a construction worker who is around a jack hammer all day yet won't wear protective ear phones, or maybe you know someone that works in the music industry and has to attend or is in live concerts yet does not wear ear plugs when they are working close to the speakers during the show. As you walk down the street you witness more and more people who use headphones or ear pieces or ear phones as listening devices. Because they frequently have the volume so loud you can hear it, then it is much too loud. Since the music is playing directly into their ears their ear drums are exposed to the loud music. Do you use an ipod or bluetooth or walkman yourself? then these are the examples of the types of listening devices that are playing close to your ear drum. You can decide to believe it or not, but these are often much louder than they need to be in order to be heard. If you are doing this, you are putting yourself a high risk level of getting tinnitus. When you are looking for cures for tinnitus, it is more about prevention than anything else. Lowering the stress level of your life and protecting yourself against loud noises at your profession are both common ways to prevent this condition. You are not being told not to use modern devices like a blue tooth, you are just being told to lower the volume level to not put yourself at risk. With all of the diseases and other things that we are exposed to in today's society, it is amazing that people would not be a little more careful in preventing a condition as harmful as tinnitus when the prevention of it is relatively easy.
